Sport Performance

Participation, sportsmanship and competition are the three main legs that describe the Riebies' sport.

 

Riebies is proud to be part of the prestigious Super 12 competition for primary schools which includes the following sports: Rugby, Netball, Hockey, Cricket, Tennis, Chess, Golf, Athletics, Cross Country.

 

The Riebies offer learners various opportunities to participate in sports.

 

Riebies have also established their own Athletics and Cross Country Club which gives learners an extra opportunity to participate.

 

Herewith a summary of the various sporting codes, who can participate and dates it takes place:

Riebie Sport codes

Netball
Netball Information

Netball teaches our learners the value of sportsmanship in a team context and provides the opportunity for the development of each individual.

 

Terms:

Term 1:

Netball trials are already taking place in the first term and friendly matches against some of the top schools start in term 1.

Term 2:

The super league for the teams starts in Term 2.

 

The following teams participate in the super league: 0/9 A; B and C;

0/10 A; B to C; 0/11 A; B to C; 0/12 A; B to C in 0/13 A, B to C.

 

The 0/10 A; 0/11 A; 0/12 A and 0/13 A teams also play in the Super 12 competition.

 

We also offer the opportunity for all Grade 1; Grade 2 and Grade 3 learners to participate in the Little Angel netball and play in various tournaments.

 

Terms 3 and 4:

Riebies also participates in several Fast five tournaments.

 

Achievements:

2022:

  • Zione Fourie was inducted into the Gauteng provincial netball team in 2022 and she was also the captain of this team.
  • Our 0/12 A netball team finished 2nd at the Gauteng championships and qualified to compete at the South African championships.
  • They took 5th place overall.

2023:

  • Gemma Engelbrecht was inducted into the Gauteng provincial netball team in 2023.
  • Our 0/13 A netball team finished 5th at the Gauteng championships and qualified to compete at the South African championships.
  • During the Super 12 primary schools competition, our 0/10 A and 0/13 A teams won their divisions. The Riebies are also rated as the best netball school in the division.

 

Practice:

Us learners practice four times a week.

 

Tours:

The Riebies create the opportunity for the learners to go on tour and compete against the best schools.

 

The following teams participated in netball tours in 2023:

0/9 A and B; 0/10 A and B; 0/11 A and B; 0/12 A and B and 0/13 A and B all competed in the Sportisimo tournament. The 0/13 A were overall winners of this tournament.

Rugby
Rugby Information

At Van Riebeeck Park Primary School we offer learners the opportunity to play rugby from Gr 1 to Gr 7. Rugby teaches our learners to play together in a team and also the correct sportsmanship associated with it.

 

Terms:

Term 1:

Rugby trials are already taking place in the first term and friendly matches against some of the top schools start in term 1.

Term 2:

The super league for the teams starts in Term 2.

 

The following teams participate in the super league: 0/9 A and B;

0/10 A in B; 0/11 A in B; 0/13 A, B in C.

 

The 0/9 A; 0/10 A; 0/11 A and 0/13 A teams also play in the Super 12 competition.

 

We also provide the opportunity for all Grade 1 and Grade 2 learners to participate in the Falcon rugby and play in various tournaments.

 

Achievements:

Riebies boasts the following boys inducted into the Hawks provincial teams for 2023:

0/12 A Hawks:

Caleb Josephs and Divan Retief

0/13 B Hawks:

Elethu Khwebulane

 

Practice:

Us learners practice four times a week.

 

Tours:

The Riebies build memories during tours and this creates an opportunity for the learners to experience a tour.

 

The following teams participated in rugby union tours in 2023:

  • 0/9 and 0/10 = Tour to Jubaweni
  • 0/11 = Take part in the North Sudan rugby tournament.
  • 0/13 B = Take part in that North South rugby tournament.
  • 0/13 A = Participate in the North-South rugby tournament as well as the Wild Clover tournament.
Tennis
Tennis Information

Terms

Tennis is presented in the third term where our boys and girls team compete in the Super 12 competition, and also in the league.


There are also development teams for learners to improve their skills.

Athletics

Athletics Information

Riebies athletics is laying the foundation for sport for the year, and the Riebies are already starting the first week of school with athletics.

 

Term:

  • Athletics will take place in Term 1 and Term 4.
  • During Term 1 there are several events in which the Riebies participate.
  • During Term 4, the Riebies take part in the Super 12 primary schools athletics meating where there are 24 top schools from different provinces participating. Riebies earned an overall 3rd place at this event in 2021.

 

Achievements:

  • The Riebies perform excellently every year and have been the Inter primary school winners for the past two years.
  • We boast 6 athletes who participated in the SA championships in Pietermaritzburg.
  • Caleb Josephs won a Silver medal in the 75m Hurdles for 0/12 boys, as well as a bronze medal in the 150m Hurdles.
  • Lexi Marx won a silver medal for the girls 0/10 weightlifting.

 

Practice / Coaching:

There are 2 – 3 coaches per item and coaches are qualified and specified in their respective items.

 

Participation and competitions:

During the Inter-House all the learners get the opportunity to participate in the various items. The top 5 athletes in each item are given the opportunity to participate in the events. During these events, the best two athletes per age are selected, who then go on to compete in the District Meet.

Golf
Golf Information

Term 4:

We participate in the Super 12 competition that takes place in term 4, as well as the league that takes place. There is an A, B AND C team participating in the league.

Hockey
Hockey Information

Term:

Term 3:

Hockey trials will take place in the third Term. The 0/13 A boys and 0/13 A girls play in the Super 12 competition.

 

The league starts in the third Term for the 0/10 A, 0/11 A, 0/12 A and 0/13 A girls, as well as the 0/13 A boys.

 

There is also mini hockey for the Grade 1, 2 and 3 learners, and they play in various tournaments.

 

Achievements:

  • The 0/13 A girls and boys hockey teams achieved an overall second place at the Eastern Gauteng Games in 2022.
  • Three of the Riebies hockey players have been included in the Easterns provincial hockey teams for 2023:
    • Zione Fourie 0/13 A daughters
    • Albie Kotze and Blaine Kotze – 0/13 A seuns

 

Practice:

Learners practice four times a week and play a game every week.

Cricket
Cricket Information

Riebies Cricket offers our learners – boys and girls the opportunity to develop their skills and compete in a team context.

 

Term:

Term 2:

 

The Riebies' 0/11 A and 0/13 A teams play in the Super 12 competition during the July holidays.

 

Term 3:

The league starts in Term 3 for the following teams: 0/9 A; 0/10 A and B; 0/11 A and B; 0/13 A, B and C.

 

There is also mini cricket for all Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 learners.

 

Achievements:

  • Riebies' 0/13 A team were league winners in 2022.
  • Riebies also produced 5 provincial players:
  • Blaine Kotze, Iaan Bitzer and Elethu Khwebulane were included in the 0/12 Easterns provincial team.
  • Anthony Stockigt and Tertius van der Walt were included in the 0/13 Easterns provincial team.

 

Practice:

Learners practice four times a week and play a game every week.

Chess
Chess Information

The Riebies make the right moves and our chess performs at all levels.

 

Term:

Chess takes place during the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Terms, where the players participate in the Super 12 competition and also in the league.

 

Achievements:

  • Riebies had three players competing at the SA championships in 2022:
    • Logan Fuck
    • Darius Buitendach
  • Trafford Chisango took second place at the Ekurhuleni District final in 2023.

 

Practice:

There is practice every Wednesday.

Cross Country
Cross Country Information

Cross country offers our learners the opportunity to stay fit and to be part of mass participation.

 

Term:

Cross country takes place in the third term where the Riebies compete in the Super 12 competition as well as the league taking place.

 

Practice:

Learners practice four times a week.
